HO HSINHUNG

Born in Taiwan in 1994. He graduated from the Department of Oil Painting at Musashino Art University in 2025 and is currently pursuing an MFA in Oil Painting at the university's Graduate School of Art and Design. His practice draws on everyday landscapes and ordinary objects to explore the ambiguous boundary between reality and the unreal.

I am interested in the boundaries and gaps that emerge when one space connects with another, and I explore this as a theme in my paintings. In my work, I construct images by layering and rearranging different landscapes and motifs. Motifs from domestic spaces, such as windows, curtains, and blinds, appear repeatedly as symbols of conflicting emotions: the desire to see and the desire not to be seen, as well as the boundary that separates inside from outside. Blinds, in particular, have a contradictory quality: they allow us to look outside while concealing the interior. What draws me to them is not their form itself, but the ambiguous relationships and boundaries that arise through them. In everyday movement, a shift in viewpoint can make a familiar landscape appear as something different. I incorporate these subtle feelings of discomfort and discovery, reconstructing them as images in which multiple layers intersect. Through landscapes and relationships that exist while containing contradiction and ambiguity, I seek to express the sensations hidden within boundaries.
